Short and Long Haul
Short Haul moves are generally those in which the distance from the point of origin to the final destination of a shipment is not more than 35 miles. Short Hauls are usually estimated and charged by the hour. Long Haul moves are the opposite of short halls, as they are moves in which which the distance from the point of origin to the final destination of a shipment is more than 35 miles. Long Hauls are usually estimated and charged by the weight of the shipment and the distance of the move.

Intrastate and Interstate Moving
Intrastate moving is when the points of origin and destination are both within the state of Illinois. These moves are regulated by the Illinois Commerce Commission and require a license with an ILCC number. Interstate moving is when the shipment crosses the Illinois state line at any point. Interstate moves have additional regulations from the U.S. Department of Transportation and require an authorization with a USDOT number (learn more about choosing a qualified mover).
